Brain injuries

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can bring lifelong mental and physical challenges. It can be severe or mild, and it needs a clinical diagnosis and medical supervision. A sports concussion, and almost any other kind of accident, can cause a brain injury. Young children and adults 65 and over are at greater risk.

The firm can get you the help of a medical expert, so you understand your needs and limitations. Understanding your condition helps define the needs you will have in the future.

Spinal cord, back and neck injuries

A spinal cord injury can permanently damage the spinal column and cause lasting disability and paralysis, or it can limit what you can do for a time while you get better.

Spinal shock may last for hours or weeks. Healing is possible. In severe cases, medical care and physical therapy are needed, and the injury may keep you from living normally for some time. A severe spinal cord injury can cause permanent damage that changes your life and may require lifelong care.

Burn injuries

Burns can be caused by gasoline fires after high-speed car, truck and motorcycle accidents, by negligently installed electrical wiring, by defective products and by exposure to toxic chemicals. They can cause life-changing disability as well as scarring and disfigurement. When the burn was caused by someone else’s negligence, the victim may be entitled to substantial compensation.

Burns are classed by severity. A first-degree burn affects only the outer layer of the skin and usually heals within days to a week. A second-degree burn reaches the second layer of the skin; it can blister, and the pain and scarring can be severe. A third-degree burn reaches the fat beneath the skin, often destroys nerves, and can come with smoke inhalation or carbon monoxide poisoning.

Representing burn victims takes an understanding of both the medicine and the law. To make the most of a client’s recovery, the firm often works with medically trained life-care planners, who set out the treatment options available to a burn victim and what they cost.
